POMPEII
Pompeii was a very famous volcanic eruption. Pompeii was a city in Italy, when the volcano erupted the city was completely buried with ash and lava. The temperatures were up to 250 degrees celsius, it was easily hot enough to kill all the people in the city, even the people who were sheltering inside stone buildings. People had forgotten that Pompeii even existed, and it stayed buried under the ground for hundreds of years. In 1748, the excavation of Pompeii was begun, when excavating archaeologists found the people who were killed still in there original position because the lava mouled around them. Archaeologists are still working on the site to this day. They now call it the Ancient City of Pompeii. |
